Hyosung Aquila Pro 650 Review

Overview

GV650 Aquila Pro is Hyosung’s entry level cruiser sports bike in India. Can this cruiser bike mark its presence in one of the least populated segment of bikes in India? Let’s find out.

Design and Style

The bike clearly states the cruiser characteristics in its styling. Hyosung have made sure that they come out with the best possible design so that people like it at once. The bike is designed to please everyone; it’s not as chunky as other full size cruiser bikes but it still looks impressive. The long telescopic front forks and elongated handlebar confirms its prominent looks. Its front forks and round shaped rear view mirrors are brushed with chrome which adds premium touch to this bike. The bike can easily hold you for moment with its circular headlight and tiny clear lens indicators which are also surrounded by chrome. The bike has a body colored front fender which partly covers its front tyre which has full size twin disc plates on its both sides. This broad fender and tyre adds much needed macho character to this bike which makes it look eye-catching when seen from the front. When you move to the side of this bike, the heavy usage of chrome will grab your attention automatically. Its engine, muffler and the part just below its fuel tank is finished with chrome which makes it look classy. Its stretched fuel tank which features the name of this bike gels up well with its seat placement. An angular chrome bar is placed on its rear cowl just below its rear seat which complements the rear styling of this bike. The bike carries the naked look at the back as it lacks grab rail and features an extremely short fender with tiny side indicators. The bike uses LED tail light at the back which makes it look modern in terms of styling.

Which Cruiser Would You Choose?

Instrument Console

Hyosung GV650 Aquila Pro’s naked instrument console consists of an analogue tachometer and digital speedometer, odometer, 2-trip meter and fuel gauge. The bike has a circular pod for its tachometer while rest of the information is displayed in a LCD which also has the brightness setting feature. You will also notice other essential LED indicators in this console.

Engine and Gearbox

Hyosung have re-tuned its 650cc engine for this bike which also powers other bikes of this family. It’s a V-twin DOHC 647cc engine which generates a maximum power output of 74 bhp at 9000 rpm. This liquid cooled, fuel injected 8 valve engine produces a peak torque of 62.1 nm which arrives at 7500 rpm. This bike comes equipped with a five speed manual gearbox which has a one gear down and four gears up shift pattern.

Acceleration and Performance

Hyosung GV650 Aquila Pro completely feels different from its siblings despite having the same engine. The bike is certainly not as quick as its siblings but it still manages to impress you. The initial gear ratios of this bike are short so that the bike doesn’t suffocate for power as it’s on the heavier side. This engine is tuned to give you relaxed cruising which means it has linear power delivery and it never seems in hurry. The throttle response is best at slow rpms as this bike starts loosing of power after 7000 rpm. It will take around 8.5 seconds to reach 0-100 km/hr which is quite respectable for a bike of this size. The bike lacks harshness and vibration and it can easily cruise at the speed of 150 km/hr. In fact, this bike seems best after 100 km/hr. The gear transitions are also very smooth and the gear ratios also feel well matched. The only problem is the lack of strong high end performance which makes it quite disappointing on highways where you want to rev such bikes really hard.

Mileage

The heavy weight of this bike affects its fuel economy badly as it only manages to return an overall fuel economy of around 15km/ltr.

Comfort while Driving

Riding comfort is one of the key characteristics of cruiser bikes and Aquila Pro seems to be a clear winner in this department. High quality of fabric is used in its seat which gives you maximum comfort on long journeys. Moreover, its front set foot pegs allow your knees to stay stress free for hours. A vibration less handle bar is used in this bike which offers comfortable and firm palm grip.

Storage Space and Safety Features

The bike has negligible storage space but features a power halogen headlight for your safety which offers clear vision of roads at night.

Suspension and Brakes

Aquila Pro has telescopic forks at its front while it has hydraulic shock absorber at the back. The bike features twin disc brakes of 300mm at its front and it sports a single disc brake of 270mm. The suspension and braking system of Aquila Pro has the potential to deal with the heavy weight of this bike.

Ride and Handling

The worst part is to handle this bike in city traffic. Its weight and size doesn’t allow it to move quickly through the traffic. You need time to steer this bike accurately in city traffic however things get better once you hit highways. It has a wheelbase of 1670 mm which maintains its stability at high speeds and its high ground clearance of 160 mm also confirms that no obstruction comes in your way. The suspension system effectively works and offers a very comfortable ride while its powerful braking system and broad tyres make sure that you never lose control on this bike.

Tyre Size, Shades and Variants

The bike has R17 size of tyre at its front while it has R18 size of tyre at the back. This bike is available in three different shades.
