I ordered this phone on 5/7/17 and it was in my hands three days later on 8/7/17. That’s very impressive considering it was shipped in from abroad. I’ll knock off one star from my rating because of two things. First, I got a different color (gunmetal) than the one I ordered (midnight black). Second, seals on the box had been broken by the time I got the phone, but nothing was missing.
So, onto the device itself. It looks and feels great due to its aluminum unibody design. It’s light, thin and comfortable to hold in the hand. It’s a bit slippery though and it has a noticeable camera bump so you might want to throw a case on it. The black front face and gunmetal back blend well together.
The 5.5-inch AMOLED Full HD display is sharp, vivid and has vibrant colors. Corning Gorilla Glass 4 offers protection against scratches and the like. Auto brightness works well. One of the best 1080P panels out there.
Performance is a breeze with Android Nougat, Snapdragon 821 (2.35 GHz) processor, Adreno 530 GPU, 6GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.0 flash storage. Scrolling through apps, multitasking, gaming, etc perform beautifully. I’m yet to encounter any lag/hang after running the device almost two weeks without a reboot. The fingerprint sensor is lightning quick. It takes less than a second to unlock the device.
Battery life is great, the 3400 mAh capacity is adequate. It easily lasts a day on medium to heavy use and a day and a half to two days with light use. While we’re on the subject of battery, let’s talk about how it charges. Dash charge has to be the fastest quick charging solution out there. It really does top up the battery 60% after just half an hour. From 0% to 100% takes an hour. Ever since I got the device I haven’t charged it overnight, there is no need.
Finally, the camera experience. There’s a 16MP camera on the back and another 16MP camera on the front. The camera app launches fast, autofocus is quick and there is no shutter lag. Photos look great with good detail, little noise and high dynamic range, even in low light. The selfie camera is very good with little tricks up its sleeve to ensure you look the best you can be.
All in all, it’s hard to find anything wrong with the OnePlus 3T. I don’t need a microSD card slot, water resistance and wireless charging. The non removable battery is a non issue to me.
I would highly recommend this phone to anyone looking to buy it. For the price, I don’t think you can get a better package.
