TAG Heuer has this morning released a new variation of the Carrera Heuer-01 series ahead of Baselworld 2017, with the launch of three 43mm Carrera Heuer-01 Skeleton Chronographs. There are four models in the new range- navy blue, “cognac brown” and black dials in a steel case and a full ceramic model.

As you can tell from a first glance, the new chronographs are based on the larger 45mm Heuer-01, but with some subtle changes to the design of the dial, a fresh colour palette and a newly designed leather strap.
Let’s take a quick look at the new 2017 Heuer-01 Carreras.

DESIGN

So what’s new apart from the (slightly) smaller case size? Well, there is a different approach to the skeleton dial. While all 45mm have black dial elements- even the Blue Touch and Rose Gold models, the new 43mm features a coloured inner ring (with the text “Automatic chronograph” and “Heuer-01“), a coloured 9 o’clock sub-dial and other coloured elements supporting the TAG Heuer logo and the date frame.

Likewise, the “30” and “15” and “12” and “6” numerals on the 12 and 6 o’clock registers now sit on a coloured rather than black background.

The other new offering is the coloured leather straps, which sit on a rubber base. These are a nice addition to the look of the Carrera Heuer-01, which until now has only been available on a bracelet or a rubber strap. Joining the leather strap to the case are newly design steel end pieces, while there are no end-pieces used for the steel bracelet option.

And if we’re talking about the black-dial model shown above, the only real difference, apart from the steel rather than titanium centre case, is the red ring below the bezel.

All the new 43mm models- except for the ceramic model we’ll get to shortly- have cases made entirely from polished satin-finished steel, including the base of the chronograph pushers.

Like its bigger brother, the bezel features a ceramic bezel, with the colour matching the dial choice.

The Full Black Ceramic is effectively a “blackened” version of the CAR201V model, but in a very cool matte ceramic.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY- 2017 CARRERA HEUER-01 43MM SKELETON

TAG Heuer says that the new model (on a steel bracelet) will retail for US$5,150 in the United States, the same price as the other 43mm Heuer-01 Carreras and $300 less than the 45mm model.
