Godox AD600BM Bowens Mount 600Ws GN87 High Speed Sync Outdoor Flash Strobe Light
Godox Witstro AD600BM is an all in one 600Ws Lithium-ion powered HSS enabled portable strobe, with both Canon and Nikon compatible 2.4GHz radio receiver units built inside. The Godox Witstro AD600BM is essentially the same studio strobe as AD600B, just without TTL support (fully Manual). Godox Witstro AD600BM is part of the Godox’s 2.4GHz radio flash system together with X1 triggers and TT685 speedlite flashes. Godox flash system is one of the most comprehensive radio flash systems currently available. Whats impressive about the Godox flash system is not only the large range of lights, with full compatibility between remote manual and TTL equipment, but also cross compatibility between Canon, Nikon, and Sony compatible versions.
The AD600BM is a 600Ws battery-powered portable strobe. It is slightly more powerful than the Profoto B1 for just over a quarter of its price.
The build of the Wistro AD600BM is great. It feels a lot more solid than it looks. The buttons and jog dials are all solid and responsive. Compared to the Paul C. Buff Einstein 640, they feel excellent in build quality. The AD600BM weighs in at 2.66kg, which is slightly lighter than both the Profoto B1 and the Einstein 640 with the Vagabond Mini. It is around the size of a 70-200 f/2.8 lens so it fits quite nicely in bags designed to hold such a lens
The AD600BM can be controlled with full HSS support. It can also be wirelessly controlled by the 2.4GHz Godox X1 transmitter units as well as Godox master speedlites such as the Godox TT685.
The Godox X1 is the proprietary remote trigger that gives you access to all of the features of Godox’s system, including High Speed Sync, groups, power settings, and if you buy the AD600B TTL-version of the light, TTL. The unit gives you complete control over your strobes remotely and is quite easy to use. There are separate versions for Canon (X1T-C), Nikon (X1T-N) and Sony (X1T-S) systems.
Output is adjustable from 1/1 to 1/256 in 1/3 stops. This can be done from the unit itself or the X1 remote. Aside from power options, Godox also offers all the usual bells and whistles, like flash groups and multiple channels. These can all be set from the unit or the remote as well. Power output is consistent, as is color output. Godox Witstro AD600BM offers good color consistency over the full power range with the swinging of only 200 K in color mode. Recycle is between 0.01s and 2.5s, which is a touch slower than the Profoto B1, but faster than the Einstein 640 when battery powered.
The battery has 8700 mAh of power. That is enough for 500 full-power pops, more than double that of the Profoto B1. High Speed Sync works well. When compared to the Nikon SB800 for example, the AD600 puts out about 4 stops more light at full power. This is very important when using HSS in broad daylight, as you can have the strobe in a large softbox and still shoot at 1/8000s. Using the Godox remote, the strobe automatically switches itself in and out of HSS mode as your shutter speed changes.
The Godox Witstro AD600BM also provides the option of a lightweight remote head, which is a feature that has been high on many peoples portable strobe wish list. The remote heads are available in both Godox and Bowens mounts, and in 600Ws and 1200Ws versions – AD-H600 / AD-H1200, and AD-H600B / AD-H1200. To achieve the 1200Ws output two AD600 strobes will be attached to the one 1200Ws head via a 2 in 1 adapter cable. The remote head is enabled via a cord which plugs into the strobe flash tube socket, acting as an extension cord between the strobe and remote flash tube
Having this much power in a small unit that fits in a shoulder bag is really handy when the sun gets high and you need to shoot. Generally Godox Witstro AD600 is an excellent performer, especially when the price is considered. If you are a mixed light user who is looking for a great system, for ease of use between speedlites and strobes, the Godox lineup will provide you a way better experience than any other system currently available.
There are 4 versions of the AD600 strobe available:
AD600 – Godox Mount TTL
AD600M – Godox Mount Manual
AD600B – Bowens Mount TTL
AD600BM – Bowens Mount Manual
The Manual versions of AD600 strobe also include the same automatic HSS mode included in the TTL versions. Manual versions are also less expensive.
Please note that Godox mount remote heads will not attach to the Bowens mount strobes, and vice versa.
